Your furnace and AC move all the air in the house through the same ducts, over and over. When those ducts are full of dust and debris, the system keeps blowing it back into the rooms.
1. Dust returns fast. If furniture looks dusty a day or two after you clean, the ducts are a likely source.
2. You can see it at the vents. Take a supply register off and look inside with a flashlight. Gray buildup on the duct walls or debris at the bottom means it's time.
3. You just remodeled or moved in. Drywall sanding and construction dust get pulled into the returns, and new homes often have sawdust and debris left in the ducts from the build.
4. Pets in the house. Pet hair and dander collect in the return ducts quickly, especially with dogs that shed.
5. A musty smell when the system turns on. After any water event or leak near the ductwork, that smell is worth checking out.
6. Allergies are worse indoors. Cleaning the ducts together with the carpet removes a large share of the dust and dander that keeps circulating.
For most homes, a duct cleaning every three to five years is plenty. Call Anorve Services at (303) 912-6005 to schedule one.
